Will assisted suicide and euthanasia soon be permitted in France? For the moment, Emmanuel Macron hasn’t done it yethas decided whether these ideas will appear in the end-of-life bill expected by the end of the year. The government has been preparing this text for several months in response to requests from certain stakeholders, such as:Academy of Medicine and that Citizens’ Convention on the End of Lifewho want further development of the current legislation.

Currently, the Claeys-Leonetti law, passed in 2016 after four years of debate, allows in certain cases “deep and continuous sedation until death”. The patient is placed in a coma and his treatments, including fluids and nutrition, are interrupted until his death, which can occur after several days.
