Explore the contents of the January 2024 issue, “Rare Diseases: The Age of Treatments.” Inserm Magazine is a quarterly information magazine illustrating the discoveries, debates and questions of constantly evolving biomedical research.
Rare diseases often go under the radar of the media… and even medicine, except perhaps cystic fibrosis or Duchenne muscular dystrophy. And yet in our country alone there are more than 6,000, affecting 3 million people! However, thanks to the efforts of researchers and doctors, as well as patient associations, innovative treatments have often been developed over the last decade, with France playing a pioneering role. However, challenges remain as half of patients still do not have an accurate diagnosis and only a few thousand can be treated, while several hundred million suffer from it worldwide.
